Medly – Music Maker 3.4 arrives and is the last 32bit version of this app

Medly – Music Maker has gone from strength to strength and in version 3.4 brings a bunch of new stuff. But, as I said in the title it’s the last version that will be available for 32bit machines. Here’s what’s new:

New Instruments

Added 4 new (free) instruments:

  • Bright Synth, Womp Synth, Chicago Bass, Clanked Bass

Also added some instruments to existing packs!

  • Classical: Brass Stab, Kalimba, Music Box, Choir
  • Jazz: Muted Trumpet, Double Bass, Old School Keyboard, Rodes Keyboard
  • Rock: Modern Bass, Guitar Synth, Pluck Synth, Metal Kit

Lastly, redid a few instruments

  • Rock: all 6 electric guitars
  • Trance: Square, Saw, Harmony, Overdrive

Important Note

“This will be the last major update for 32-bit devices. The next major update, Medly 4.0, will no longer support: iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPad Mini 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4.

Computing demands for audio processing have outpaced 32-bit devices. And as we continued to add new features, such as audio automation, pitch bending, and video export, we found that these devices couldn’t support them.”

Medly – Music Maker 3.0

When you look at the upgrade history of Medly it’s very impressive indeed. This app has been so well maintained it’s amazing. Version 3 (and subsequently 3.0.1 and 3.0.2) is another big step for Medly.

Here’s what’s new in Medly 3:

Medly 3.0 is here: New controls, Localized and for Apple Watch!

  • You can finally pause your song when editing a Section.
  • Quickly switch between the next and pervious Sections when editing.
  • Added localizing to 10 new languages: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
  • Apple Watch: Open, play and control Medly songs right from your wrist. Perfect for running in the background and using Inter-App Audio or Audiobus.
  • We’ve added a “Paste Linked” to the Section options and have made “Paste” create a non-linked copy.
  • You can now start the Medly tutorial by going to: Albums screen > tap M (top left corner) > Tips and Tricks > start tutorial

Just in case you didn’t know, here’s the full details of the app itself:

Medly takes a new approach to the way music is made, letting both seasoned and new musicians make epic music. Just pick your instruments and start drawing notes.

Use Medly on your iPhone, iPad, and iPad Pro. Medly supports all screen orientations and sizes, including Split View and Slide Over.

Medly breaks up your song into Sections that you can easily pick up, move, delete, copy, and link together to make loops. Then arrange your Sections, using up to 8 instrument tracks, to make epic music.

Start off with 12 free instruments, and unlock 80 more across a variety of genres in the Medly store.

Quickly upload your song to SoundCloud, or share it as an audio, MIDI, or Medly file. You can also connect Medly to other apps using Audiobus, Inter-App Audio or play in time using Ableton Link.

Change the volume of each track and apply effects and filters to make to customize your sounds. You can also add fades and automate volume and effects over time.*

Open, play and control Medly songs right from your wrist. Perfect for running in the background and using Inter-App Audio or Audiobus.

Use 3D Touch to quickly create and open a song from your iPhone home screen, or Peek & Pop your Albums and Songs. You can also press harder when drawing notes to make them louder.

Medly is free on the app store (but with IAPs):
