DJDJ adds Link and Audiobus

So I get to say one of my favourite things, DJDJ is on the bus! Yay! In version 1.0.2 here’s what’s new:

  • Ableton Link integration
  • Audiobus

Also check out other apps supporting Link here.

14 apps I love: 9 – Audiobus

Speaking of work horses, no list would really be complete without Audiobus would it? Another app that fits into that ‘it just works’ kind of category, and with Audiobus there really is nothing more to say (for now anyway).

Some samples from the Victoria line and the liberal use of Klevgränd apps

Some time ago I found this set of samples from the Victoria Line (that’s part of the London Underground network) which is intended for use by anyone who wants to make a track using the samples. So, eventually, I have, and I’d encourage you to take a look and download them too.

Anyway, that happened to coincide with getting a bunch of apps from the very awesome Klevgränd Produktion AB, who’s apps are really amazing, and I’d also encourage you to check their stuff out. More of that in a moment.

What I ended up doing is making this track:

How I went about it is as follows:

  • Firstly I loaded the samples into AudioShare and played them on loop via Audiobus into Kuvert then on to be recorded into MultiTrack DAW. To really understand how good Kuvert is you need to try it out, it is truly amazing and is in my top 3 effects apps now after one use!
  • Next I decided to further process the track using R0Verb (a really interesting reverb which I need to spend more time with), Svep (chorus and phaser), and finally Korvpressor, which is amazing!

So this track is as much about these apps as it is the original sample, but that’s fine. I think it’s a good way to discover this sample set, which I think I’ll explore a lot more, and these apps, which are, quite frankly, amazing.

trigger seq gets on the bus!

I don’t get to say “… is now on the bus” nearly as much as I used to, nor nearly as much as I’d like these days. Which feels like a big of a shame all in all. However, today I can say it, and it feels good!

trigger seq is on the bus now. Good for alejandro for getting it there.

There’s nothing else I can see in this release for trigger seq, but being on the bus is good enough for version 1.2 I think.

Is there still room for AudioBus? Yes, I really think that there is

I know that there has been a lot of debate since Monday and the WWDC keynote about whether or not Apple’s ‘inter-app audio’ will actually do what AudioBus set out to do. Of course, if it does then the assumption that Apple has effectively killed off AudioBus even before it get’s released would seem reasonable.

But is that really the whole story? Well, not entirely. For a start, as ‘inter-app audio’ will only come in with iOS6 then ‘inter-app audio’ will only apply to the iPad 2 and 3, and 3GS / 4 / 4S. Having said that, there’s no actual evidence that this ‘inter-app audio’ will apply to all those devices.

What’s important to note though is that the iPad 1 is not in scope for iOS6 and neither are the iPod Touch ranges prior to the 4th gen devices. So there will be lots of users who will need a different solution to audio routing, and there’s where AudioBus could step in and fill a potentially large gap.

Of course, over and above that there’s also the possibility that the functionality that AudioBus plans to deploy will be complimentary to Apple’s routing solution and so there won’t be a conflict anyway. Who can tell!

What’s for sure is that it’s early days for whatever Apple’s solution is and also for AudioBus too. The next few weeks and months will uncover what’s really going to be possible, so, we wait and see.
