Another out of the blue launch from Korg, and a very welcome one for that matter. But I can’t put it better than they do …
“The legendary ARP sound, exquisitely reproduced in software. ARP ODYSSEi – A mobile analog synthesizer for iOS.”
The ARP Odyssey of 1972 has earned an unshakable position as a classic analog synthesizer. In 2015, KORG produced the ARP ODYSSEY, a complete reproduction of the original. The ARP genes that shook the worldwide music scene are being passed on, and its history continues.
The next platform for the ARP ODYSSEY is iOS. We want the unforgettable ARP sound to be easily available on a device that as many as possible of today’s players can obtain; this resulted in the “ARP ODYSSEi” app for iPad / iPhone. Based on the revived ARP ODYSSEY, we used KORG’s proprietary CMT circuit modeling technology to reproduce the analog feeling and sound of the original as closely as possible. We’ve also given it numerous enhancements that are possible only with software, such as long-awaited polyphony and built-in effects.
The real analog ARP ODYSSEY, and now the uniquely evolved ARP ODYSSEi, brings the universal fascination and inimitable sound to every device.
Due to differences in CPU speed of iPads / iPhones, iPad 3rd gen/2/iPad mini/iPhone 4s are not supported, only iPad Air/iPhone 5s or later is recommended.
Faithfully models the circuit of the ARP ODYSSEY: The circuitry has been reproduced using KORG’s proprietary CMT (Component Modeling Technology), developed over the years starting with the KORG Legacy Collection.
New functions to create all-new ARP sounds: Added a voice assign mode that allows you to play chords, an arpeggiator that can be programmed in detail like a step sequencer, and effects that can transform the sound in diverse ways.
Get all three of the sought-after revisions: In addition to the standard design of the Rev3 with its black panel and orange silk-screening, you can optionally obtain the white-paneled Rev1 and the black-paneled gold silk-screened Rev2 designs, together with fifty new preset sounds that take advantage of the distinctive filters of those models.
Produce music together with KORG Gadget: ARP ODYSSEi can be used in conjunction with the “KORG Gadget” music production DAW app that has won numerous awards around the world. If both apps are installed, it can be used as the “Lexington” gadget inside the KORG Gadget app.
Special Sale for a limited time to celebrate the debut of ARP ODYSSEi, the app is 33% OFF until Nov 30. It’s priced at $19.99 / $14.99
Something new from the makers of Ruismaker, and Ruismaker FM, here comes Phasemaker, a new FM synth app for iOS that’s also an AU too.
Here are all the details …
The first 6-Operator FM Synth on iOS, building on the legacy of the classic synthesizers that defined the digital era of the 1980s.
It also happens to be the first FM Audio Unit instrument (AUv3), offering tight integration in many leading mobile DAWs, such as Auria, Garageband, Cubasis, Modstep and AUM.
(Note: there is a known bug in the current version of Garageband which may cause compatibility issues with some AU plugins).
Frequency Modulation brings rich timbres and dynamic evolving sounds full of personality which are impossible to create with analog modelling. The 6-Operator architecture allows for lively multi-layered sounds with lots of expression and playability.
Phasemaker’s characteristic FM sound will add classic digital character to your mobile sonic arsenal which no other analog synth can bring.
System requirements: iPad 4+, iPad Mini 2+, iOS 9 or higher
As you probably already know, I do like apps that are a little further off the beaten track than most, and this really fits the bill for me. Jussi is pretty unusual. In fact, I’d say I’m not sure I’ve seen anything quite like it before.
When I first launched Jussi I have to say that it was a surprise. Not quite what I’d expected at all. For the most part vocal synths often sound a little too robotic for my liking. Not that I don’t like robots or robot sounds of course. But it was a real surprise, a very different and very unique sound.
I’ve really enjoyed using Jussi so far, although I’m not sure quite where I’ll use this in my own music. Having said that, I might just have to make something special with it.
For now, take a look at the app’s description:
This synthesizer emulates male voice vowels in a unique way. Thanks to a set of powerful parameters you can make Jussi sing anything from soft and airy choir-like vowels to hard and angry shouting. Formants are controlled by playing with different velocity, which makes it fun and easy to play using a MIDI keyboard.
AUv3, works with AUv3 compatible hosts like Garageband, Cubasis, AUM etc
ADSR with ”Turn-in” and ”Turn-out” option (Turn-in and Turn-out affects the pitch and maps it to attack and release)
Voice character XY pad (Intensity and Narrowness)
Legato mode (glides between notes and velocity levels)
Legato Hold mode (polyphonic legato when using a sustain controller, consult the documentation for more info)
Throat emulation XY pad (Grain and Tonality)
Note: Jussi in stand-alone mode does not support IAA, Audiobus or MIDI. You can play it using the keys at the bottom, but that’s it. We recommend using Jussi with AUv3 compatible hosts.
A new drum synth is always welcome of course, so Hello Frum! Nice to meet you, from what I can see though this little drum synth doesn’t have AB, IAA, or Link. Perhaps that will come in time. It does however seem to have more of a focus on sharing tracks within the app itself. Let’s see how that goes.
For now here’s the app’s description:
• • • Special offer to celebrate our first app launch for a limited time!!! • • •
Unlocking new potentials of FM synthesis.
Frum is a radically new FM Drum Synthesizer, incubated after many years of research and development into FM synthesis. You may imagine FM sounds to be clear and harmonic, but those are just the start of the possibilities FM has to offer. More potential is unleashed by harnessing the unlimited, free power of complex sound waves.
Close sound encounters of the third kind.
Traditionally, FM synths are overwhelming, with too many parameters to control the sound texture. Frum bundles many of these parameters together in the BUG button, offering entirely new textures each time the button is pressed. It’s easy to find and tweak these sounds to make drums, other percussion, fat bass, organic noises such as insect songs, environmental sounds, human screams, as well as all sorts of intriguing melodies.
The sounds are at your fingertips. With Frum, we had to rethink the existing UI design for hardware and software synthesizers, bringing the power of FM to the iOS touch screen. The vertically scrolling sequencer allows you to enjoy single-handed, stress-free control of the UI.
Rearrange blocks to compose music. Entire songs can be composed by rearranging pattern blocks with your fingers. Complex arrangements and organisation is possible with the user having control over song name, pattern block colors, loop counts and durations.
Share your song on the timeline. From incorporates SNS technology, allowing you to listen to hot new tracks from around the world, as soon as somebody shares them. Let people know what you think, and get feedback on your own tracks, via the like button, and comments section.
A new synth from VirSyn is really something to look forward to, and we haven’t had to wait long for this since they teased it with videos (see below). For now here’s the full app description for Addictive Pro.
The hybrid synthesis algorithm on which Addictive Pro is based provides you with efficient means for easy control of complex sounds far beyond usual sound synthesis methods:
Addictive Pro provides you a with unique form of Wavetable oscillators. These Wavetables are generated from the harmonic content and the free digital filter structure entered by the user.
The sound of up to 12 of this Wavetable oscillators is then further refined with a classic analog filter available in several 24dB and 12dB forms.
For the optional noise part of the sound you can use the same sophisticated digital filter struct as for the wavetable oscillators allowing for a vast variety of ever changing noisescapes.
The intelligent sound and rhythm randomizer can be applied to different sound aspects separately for really useful sound design and inspiration.
A four part polyrhythm Arpeggiator creates complex rhythmical structures with a touch of a finger.

It feels like it’s been a while since we had a really good new synth app, then along comes Poison-202 Vintage MIDI Synthesizer, a universal synth app, and if the video is anything to go on then it sounds good too.
So here are the full details of the app …
Poison-202 is a professional Vintage Midi Synthesizer. Made by musicians for musicians, it is inspired by famous classic hardware synthesizers of 80’s and 90’s and has all the main sound creation blocks you can imagine: oscillators, cutoff Filters, ADSR-envelopes, ring, cross modulation, LFOs, sync, super-saw oscillator and more! Unlike many other software synthesizers at the market, which can reproduce only limited family of sounds, Poison-202 is designed to be able to reproduce almost any classic synthesizer timbre! Check out the Presets Demo video:
The library of 150 built-in factory presets includes famous patches that can be heard in the compositions of such electronic and rave scene music performers as The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Azzido Da Bass, Darude, Kraftwerk, Daft Punk and many others!
You can play it with your fingers on iPhone / iPad, or you can plug-in your favorite USB MIDI keyboard into your device using Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera Adapter and turn Poison-202 into a real synthesizer module!
I originally saw this over at Matrixsynth and ever since I’ve been meaning to take a closer look.
My first impression is that I love the idea of it, especially the modular design using interchangeable sound cartridges. I’m sure that I’m not the only person that’s going to appeal to. Bluetooth pairing to a mobile device is also a smart move.
Also the dock with RCA, MIDI, USB-C and 3.5mm jack outputs is a nice touch for using the thing when you’re not on the move. A very smart move indeed.
But Zont is a long way off for now. We won’t see it until late 2017, which is a long time to wait. Also there’s no mention of a price point as yet, which is to be expected, and whilst this might have a similar form factor to a Pocket Operator I’d expect the price to be significantly higher.
So for now you can check the pictures on the ZONT site and the tech specs below
Universal input interface
Wi-Fi cloud sync
Built-in rechargeable battery
Interchangable sound cartridges
3.5mm headphone jack
iOS and Android app
As soon as I know more about this device I’ll be sure to share it with you.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a very nice surprise all in all. In fact it’s great that Electro-Harmonix have delivered these two apps (one for iPhone and one for iPad). I’m looking forward to trying them out.
Here are all the details …
Electro-Harmonix, a pioneer since 1968 in the field of sound effects pedals for musicians, has produced an app which is a faithful digital re-creation of their circa 1980 analog cult-classic, The MINI-SYNTHESIZER.
Available for iPad and iPhone (IOS version 8.0 or later), the EHX MINI-SYNTHESIZER accurately delivers all the vintage synth sounds of the original plus modern updates.
EHX President and Founder, Mike Matthews stated: “Fans of vintage synths will appreciate the apps ability to recreate the original’s warm analog sounds and deep funky bass, but because it’s so affordable ($2.99 for phone, $4.99 for tablet) and user-friendly, parents, educators and non-musicians will love it, too.”
The MINI-SYNTHESIZER app comes with 22 presets and the ability to store an almost unlimited number of user presets programs.
Intuitive, flexible and powerful control are provided by the MINI-SYNTHESIZER’s 12 sliders and nine switches. Here’s a breakdown of the user interface:
PITCH slider lets the player raise or lower the pitch of the note by +/- 1 octave
SUB-OCTAVE slider introduces a note one octave below what’s being played for extra bottom
OCTAVE UP switch causes the note being played to jump up one octave.
TUNE knob lets the player tune the MINI-SYNTHESIZER to other instruments and sound sources over a +/- 50 cents range.
PHASE RATE slider adjusts the speed of the phase shifter
FILTER START sets the start frequency of the filter sweep
FILTER STOP sets the stop frequency of the filter sweep
SWEEP RATE controls the speed of the filter sweep
PHASE switch turns the effect on/off
2X FILTER switch changes how the audio passes through the filters (either in parallel or in series)
Q switch sets the amount of resonance on the filter sweep
RETRIGGER switch turns the filter retrigger on/off
TIME slider adjusts the delay time up to two seconds
FEEDBACK controls the number of echo repeats
BLEND adjusts the mix of the original signal and the echo repeats
DELAY switch turns the effect on/off
AMOUNT slider adjusts the reverb effect level
BLEND slider controls the mix of the wet and dry signals
REVERB switch turns reverb on/off
REVERB>DELAY switch lets the user place either Delay or Reverb first in the effects chain for a variety of cool sound effects.
VOL (Volume) slider adjusts the MINI-SYNTHESIZER’s overall sound output level
POLY/MONO switch toggles between polyphonic (four notes can be played simultaneously) or monophonic (only one note can be played at a time) modes
PRESETS pop-down menu displays the presets available and allows the user to instantly select one
HORIZONTAL slider lets the player adjust the keyboards sounding range over an expansive eight-octave range.
RIBBON Interface lets the player perform portamento (glide up or down to pitch), vibrato and other expressive playing.
The easy-to-use Electro-Harmonix MINI-SYNTHESIZER App is loaded with great sounds and features and is sure to appeal to serious musicians and non-musicians alike.

Eera is a monophonic synth, designed for everyday in-studio and on-the-stage situations, when you need space effects, rich and deep basses and unusual or classical leads.
Thanks to X/Y control at the heart and the X/Y bindings, people compare expressiveness of Eera with singing.
While it has modulations for each of the key parameters, it’s simple to use. In fact, for getting different timbre characteristics there is only one slider! Which in turn possible thanks to the unusual parabolic oscillator with width modulation.
And you can be sure that Eera does not prevent you to get your own, your personal sounds.
Eera was created with professional production in mind. The synth has the high quality tube amplifier on the out and supports sample rate up to 96 kHz.
no need for external MIDI controllers – Eera is an expressive instrument out of the box;
