Mercury Drum Sequencer for iPad appears

I’m not sure what to make of this new drum sequencer from a previously unknown developer. It looks very simple and straightforward, but perhaps too much so? I may be being unfair without having tried it first.

Anyway, here’s the app’s description:

Mercury Drum Sequencer is a sample based drum machine and step sequencer.

Features:

  • Five tracks with two sound sources (osc) each.
  • Osc and track sound tweaking parameters.
  • Individual track effects.
  • Each osc and track parameter can be overridden per step, by holding the desired step and changing the parameter in question.
  • Supports syncing with other music apps using Ableton Link.

Mercury Drum Sequencer costs $4.99 on the app store:

Zario is a very minimal synth for your iPhone

Although when I say minimal I don’t necessarily mean lacking in sound quality. More than the interface, and indeed the app’s description, can be described as minimal at best. That’s not to say that there’s anything wrong with minimal, but I would have appreciated a little more than this description:

“With Zario you can set a single oscillator to your desired waveform, customise the keyboard, and play any lead with ultimate expression.”

However, the Zario site is a little more helpful, and has this to say.

“Pro Tips

Disable those annoying pull out menus that come with iOS

Just activate guided access!

Go to your device’s settings. From there keep going to general, accessibility, and all the way down you’ll find guided access. Once you activate guided access, all you have to do is open Zario, and once you’re sure you dont have to leave the app, triple tap your home button

No more pull out tabs coolin’ down your jamz.

Tuning

More of a beginner tip really. Notice that the Zario board is a lot like a keyboard. So if you manage to keep the blue pull down bar perfectly centered within a key, you’re playing a tuned note

Sine Waves

Sine waves might not be audible if you aren’t plugged into speakers or headphones. So always plug in to work with sine waves. Also, always plug in cause everything sounds better anyways!

Support

Inter App Audio

Unfortunately Zario crashes if you try to use it with Garageband’s Inter App Audio feature. Right now the best way to use Garageband with Zario is to use Audiobus. However, it might be a bit buggy to use Zario with Audiobus without anything plugged into the headphone jack. With headphones or speakers plugged in, Zario works perfectly with Audiobus.”

Also there’s this video too …

Zario is on the app store and costs $1.99:

ZhSh is here

A new app from the maker of Self-A-Fuzz. It sounds simple. Here’s the full description.

Noise-centered and barely musical audio-effect application.
Treat it like Self-a-Fuzz small brother.
ZhSh can work as left-field distortion pedal or audio texture creator: generate and filter mix of white and pink(flicker) noise to fill night with pleasant sounds or use resulting sounds to blend-mix-shape your audio-input to add distortions.

Features:

  • White and Pink noise generator
  • Filter eq9 to gate noise
  • Pitch detector for eq9
  • Mutonic with 5 components
  • Output pure, filtered or blended audio
  • Presets system
  • Audiobus and IAA
  • Randomizers for every parameter
  • Oscillographs
  • Occasionally universal

Minimum requirements: iPhone 4s and iOS 8.

Use headphones or connect to other apps to avoid possible audio feedbacks.

ZhSh costs $0.99 on the app store:

Moodscaper SE arrived

If you’ve got the original Moodscaper, then you won’t need this version. However, there’s a helpful note at the end of the app description that explains how to get the sounds. As for the app description, here it is …

Moodscaper SE is a “Special Edition” of the moodscaper app that comes loaded with three alternative mood sample sets comprising ambient electric guitar, massive mellow modular sounds and an extraordinary orchestra!

Moodscaper SE is also an easy to use instrument for creating epic-sounding pads and effects as part of a larger iPad-based music-making setup.

Main features:

  • Unique generative atmospheric sample-based instrument
  • Simple user interface
  • Sleep timer
  • Three scale-based moods – light, sad and dark
  • Variable dynamics – from mellow and sparse to full-on drama!
  • Three loopers with optional sync
  • Provides tasteful auto-accompaniment to your playing in realtime or in loops
  • Hints displayed on keys that should sound good with root notes or chords
  • Samples are randomly stacked for a bigger sound with more variation

*** moodscaper owners – please note ***

If you already own moodscaper, you can import these sounds into the app via iTunes File Sharing by downloading the sounds from moodscaper.com for free. Moodscaper SE came about after numerous requests for the additional sounds to be made available in a new standalone app. If you already own moodscaper, you probably don’t need moodscaper SE 😉
