Roland’s A-01 is a step in the right direction, a mobile direction that is

An interesting departure for Roland with the new A-01. No idea on price as yet, but I’m sure it’ll come.

Introducing K-Mix from Keith McMillen Instruments

From just watching this video I am amazed by what this device can do. It seems amazing and in such a tiny form factor! I always knew that Keith McMillen Instruments were good, but this is way beyond good.

Here’s what the video description says:

“Introducing Keith McMillen’s K-Mix: an unbreakable, 8-in/10-out audio interface and programmable mixer. K-Mix features 2 ultra-accurate, high-efficiency low noise μPre preamps, and a precision opto-tactile control surface that was designed from the ground up for an unprecedented level of control. We’ve made super clean audio more accessible, so you can focus on the music.

K-Mix is a go-anywhere, fully-programmable, audio multi-tool that can meet all your needs as an artist, whether you’re in the studio or on the road. With no moving parts, K-Mix can be transported in a backpack without the fear of snapping off a fader or knob, while still giving you unrivaled audio quality, mixer functionality, and control.”

Yamaha announces their Wireless MIDI Adaptor MD-BT01 and UD-BT01

This looks like a nice solution from Yamaha, and what’s more they’ve updated their Mobile Music Sequencer, Synth Arp & Drum Pad, Performance Editor Essential, Faders, Voice Editor Essential, Multi Editor Essential, and reface capture apps to work with it too.

Nice move.

A bit more detail on the OP-Z

The OP-Z seems to be a pretty amazing device. Here’s what’s I’ve gleaned from the video.

  • Sequencer
  • 16 tracks
  • Synth engine based on the OP-1
  • 4 effects tracks
  • 2 tracks for controlling external devices
  • Lego compatible!
  • An external app (don’t know if this will be tablet or desktop or both) to access features and controls
  • A built in video synth that looks amazing and totally off the wall
  • Lots of stuff in the ‘to be announced’ category!

There’s no display, the interface is entirely done with LEDs. Which is going to be interesting and possibly a challenge.

No news on price as yet, but I can’t see it being cheap, can you?

There’s plenty that’s not being said about this device, but even so, if it’s from TE it’s probably going to be good. Unusual, maybe odd, but good.

Teenage Engineering still developing the OP-1

I was pleased to see in their latest newsletter (alongside the wallet debilitating news of 3 new PO series devices) that TE are still working on the OP-1! That’s great to hear. They’re not giving much away, and it was tucked away at the end of the email, so if you missed it or didn’t get it, here it is:

we are continually developing our flagship synthesizer the OP-1, soon back in stock. thanks for all the feedback we’re getting! we know a lot of you are waiting for an update. stay tuned for more info…”

I’m hoping it won’t be too long, and it would be awesome if they did a hardware add-on for the OP-1, although that too would be a costly move no doubt.

So what we need is a proper list of iOS AU instruments

However, I think that there’s only one for now. I think it’s iSEM. If you know of others, please comment them in as I plan to set up a page of AU instruments, and maybe AU effects too.

Would that be useful?
