Thanks to the nice people at 4Pockets I have 2 promo codes for their latest app MeTeoR Multitrack recorder to give away. To enter to win one of these codes all you have to do is answer this question:

What mobile OS was MeTeoR originally released on?

Email your answer to palmsounds.comp@me.com by tomorrow the 10th of May at 8pm GMT. Two winners will be picked at random from the correct answers and codes will be emailed to them tomorrow evening.

If you don’t know MeTeoR you can find out more about it at the app store. Also, have a read of my interview with 4Pockets about the release of MeTeoR for iOS.

  1. Just got an email back from the devs about stereo recording. It looks like it's gonna be a no go. I wish they would have made that clear in the app description before I dropped the $20. They said iPad can not handle 12 stereo tracks. Somehow MTdaw manages….. Grrrrrr guess I'll be waiting for the stereo pasting abilities in the next update.

  2. I'm from the 'portastudio' generation. Doing stuff in stereo then never really crossed anyone's minds because we were still all living in the shadow of acts like the Human League and Cabaret Voltaire, who would be recording on the maximum of 8 mono tracks. And then of course there was George Martin and the Beatles- LP's like Sergeant Pepper were recorded on 4-track, and there was a lot of bouncing and tape edits.

    Work with mono, then mix into stereo. If you've got automation, and stereo returns, then mono's not a bad thing at all. 🙂

    I just would like CoreMIDI sync so I can have 3 or 4 tracks of linear in the background of say Nanostudio, or Jasuto.

  3. As another early adopter I'm trying to use the app to record from my hardware drum machines, synths and samplers which I've already spent the time mixing and panning within the machines. Yes I know how to do it the old way, but why spend 20 dollars on something that other apps can do for cheaper. It's 2011 not 1960; good for all the old cats who did it their way, but times have changed drastically and believe it or not people want these features. If I wanted to work in mono I'd buy a sp1200 and a 4 track tape recorder…..

    I know the user who comes here beat.tv had asked this stereo/mono question repeatedly in posts about meteor. You better give a history lesson too. Tom, do you ever have anything worthwhile to say here. It seems like you've got Anti-Tom fan club.

  4. Yah I was going to pan my samples and do ghetto stereo…. So much pain to record everything twice and then line everything up…. I'll just cross my fingers for an update.

  5. @dude with hoodie-of-hatred on;

    “It seems like you've got Anti-Tom fan club.”

    Mate,

    I may be 'hated' (by a few maybe, but I can deal with that, so bring it on!)

    At least I'm not ugly! 😉 😀 lol!

    @Formal;

    'Ghetto stereo' is good! At the end of the day, it's the music that counts right? 🙂 Here's a present for you; Lee Scratch Perry with his 4-track and a Space Echo! 😎
