Amazing! I don’t think that I seriously expected Tascam to produce a portastudio app for the iPad when I was talking about 4 tracks a while back, but here it is!

Here’s what you’ll get for your money ($9.99):

TASCAM’s Portastudio brings 30 years of easy-to-use home recording to your iPad. Based on the PORTA ONE recorder that revolutionized recording in 1984, the Portastudio app records up to four tracks with a vintage vibe.

Record one track at a time using the built-in mic or a headset microphone connection, monitoring on authentic VU meters. A cassette transport with position counter tracks your position while you mix with level, pan and EQ controls. When you’re ready to mix, the built-in mixdown function saves your song as a CD-quality WAV file. Your mix appears in iTunes when you’re finished, ready to share with friends and bandmates.

A generation of your favorite bands crafted their songs with Portastudios, now it’s your turn. Start capturing your songs with the company that invented home recording using Portastudio by TASCAM.

  1. How is it any better than other 4 tracks costing .59p. This is really pricy! Daft could have added some eq and a effects loop and it would have bee a winner, common Roland and release a sp808 app

  2. Seems like a bit of nostalga from TASCAM. One could just tape a printo out of a portastudion on their daw.

Why would you loose flexibilty and editing so you can have the eye candy of a cassette.

TASCAM is late to the party so many of its presebt hardware products are availble as Apps that function better. I was thinking the other day who would ever buy their expensive cd phase trainer. Who listens to CDs any more, Amplitube added the phrase trainer as a part of thier app in the last upgrade. Which you can buy for a couple of dollars.

This app is evidence that TASCAM and a lot of the old school hardware people (with the exception of Korg) are being left behind.

Why has Roland not put out a official 808 drum machine app. they could just buy the app from another developer and put their name on it. Boss has that crappy stomp box app that only has pictures of their current line. When you can buy great effects for .99. Even Propellerheads made a recreation of something revolutinary 20 years ago but not now.
