Stylophone BeatBox

Is this a good advert for the Stylophone Beatbox? I don’t know, but I really enjoyed the video anyway.

Any devs interested in porting GlitchDS?

The developer of GlitchDS is looking for an iPhone developer to help port this popular DS homebrew app over to the iPhone platform.

Anyone interested?

CD + Light theremin

Here’s a nice twist on the conventional CD jewel case. With this one you not only get the CD but also a light theremin built into the case as well! What a great idea.

The music is pretty good too, and if you don’t want to go the whole way and get the $50 theremin edition then you can just buy it on iTunes if you like.

Nanolo track made in multiple apps

Nanolo has a new (and really good) track made with Noise IO, iSequence, Hexatone and Beatmaker.

Looks like more people are starting to pull stuff together using the wonder of Amidio’s ioLibrary technology. What are you making?

Arduino and carbon neutrality

I was reading this post on how Arduino is moving toward carbon neutrality and made me think about how handheld music is more eco friendly than laptop / desktop based computer music.

I’ve posted on this before and I think that there’s something in it. By using handheld tools for music you’re probably making just a bit of a difference to the environment. So there’s another plus for handheld musicians.

I think it’d be great if other hardware manufacturers moved to a similar footing as Arduino have done, but I guess as time goes on consumer pressure will have a hand in this.

CDM on Open Source Drumming on the DS

CDM has a great post on a new DS homebrew app built by Andrea Bianchi and Woon Seung Yeo and presented it alongside a paper earlier this year at the NIME Conference (The International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression). The Mobile Music Workshop would have been the ideal place to present this kind of work, but sadly the workshop didn’t run in 2009, let’s hope it comes back next year.

These day, with all of the great things that are happening with the iPhone platform it is easy to overlook great things going on with the DS and other platforms especially when developers can’t exactly make a great deal of money out of homebrew on the DS.

What’s the worst app you ever bought?

So, you’ve bought some app (music or otherwise) and you’ve tried it out only to think, ‘why did I buy that?’.

Here’s the place to put it to rest. Comment in the worst iPhone app (music or otherwise) that you’ve bought and wish you could get your money back on.
