Musician’s Tools has a great post on the Tascam DP004, released 30 years after the first portastudio. Was it really that long ago? It seems like only yesterday that my old Fostex X-15 finally gave up.

I am quite tempted by the Tascam DP004 even though I’ve been making more use of my Boss Micro BR.

  1. Indeed this looks like an interesting recorder. I’m intrigued by the idea of using it in combination with meteor so you could swap out the card after recording tracks on the dp004 and then import the tracks to meteor for proccessing and editing…It looks from the manual you could import the audio bck into the dp004 for more overdubs etc….I know its silly but the only thing that is slightly offputting is there’s no backlight on the display..I was thinking I could use this to record gig’s in the dark!

  2. I know what you mean. I do like the back light on the Micro BR. It is very useful, but I like that this has actual knobs on it to turn. Perhaps I’m just old fashioned.
