What other simulations would I like?

Having posted a couple of times on the Mini VL-Tone app, I was wondering about what other emulations of excellent (small) synths we could think of that would be great to have on the iphone, or any other mobile platform for that matter.

Here’s what I would go for:

Gnat synth
– Korg Kaosillator

So, what would you want?

What’s a fair price for Pacemaker 2.0?

Tonium confirmed their forthcoming Pacemaker 2.0 device on their blog, but, what’s a fair price for the 2.0 version? Pacemaker haven’t announced a price as yet. The original devices are going on ebay for £310 – £350.

So, what’s a fair price?

iDrum video

Here’s an example of one of the iDrum variants working on an iPod Touch 2G. I do really like the interface on this series of apps.

Mini VL Tone on the iPhone: First look

Yesterday I posted on the MiniVLTone iPhone app appearing on the app store. Well I’ve had a little bit of a play with it now, and here’s what I think.

Firstly, this is a great idea. I like the fact that these developers have brought a VL-Tone simulation to the iPhone, and why not? But, it isn’t complete. They admit that there are a bunch of functions that aren’t there as yet. Here’s the list:

  • A calculator
  • Recording mode
  • One-key-play
  • LCD display
  • ADSR envelope programming

However, the upside is that it also does not require four AA-batteries!

I’d love it if they could add in the features above, that would be brilliant, and if at all possible, why not be able to export to Beatmaker, or .wav files so you could use those excellent rhythms elsewhere? Having said all that, I do think it is worth the £0.59 ($0.99) as it is, and it is a fun app anyway. Well done to the developers.

I’d say it is worth a go just for the nostalgia value alone.

MiniVLTone available on the iTunes App Store

Some help with soldering

Following velocipede’s comment on the Colossus Synth about soldering I thought I’d post something on soldering (which I found very useful myself).

If anyone has any useful tips on soldering please comment them in.
